Paul's Bods or The Butchers

Strange title isn't it. Well I try to explain it. The following "bods" are from a swap with Paul from Paul's bods last year on FIGZ. When I first got these, I didn't have any idea what I would do with these figures. They are from Strelets, called Medieval Levy (2). These are the first medieval figures from Strelets I had in my hands. I have figures from this manufacturer, but they are all Napoleonics.

Last month I had a good look at them and decided to paint them. The idea came up to paint them as armed citizens of the year 1302. That year there was a big battle (Battle of the Golden Spurs) between the French army and the Flemish people. Most of the army was formed by citizens, the so called Guild. And as these figures almost all have an axe as weapon, I decided these are the "Butchers". My figures are based on this novel: De Leeuw van Vlaanderen written by Hendrik Conscience.

So now you know all about the title, time for some pictures:

Jan Breydel, one of the leaders in the novel.

I hope you like them!

The figures will go back to Paul, as reinforcements for his medieval city. They can use some help againts that bad Lord!

Currently painting: finishing some things ;-)

Currently reading: Naomi Novik's Tongues of Serpents

    1. I'm sure it isn't Paul Remco. Otherwise all my figures would have been painted! Just teasing Paul! ;-D

  4. Those shots of the horde are really good, they look menacing as a group. And as always I love your choice of colors.

  5. Lovely painting..as the others have said, the colours are great. I´d be honoured to have them back..but it sounds like you could make a good project with the battle of the golden spurs idea.
