Imex Wounded Regular American

Again a figure that Pete from Tabakskollegium-Mekelnborg sended to me. Normally this figure is from the British Infantry set from Imex. You can see a review here on PSR. It’s just because I see him on the other side for my AWI project.
Plan is to paint more of these British Infantry men into American Regular troops to get more poses without doing conversions on them. But more about that later.
Enjoy the pictures!

Hope you like him.

Hat 8180 Gardner Gun and Crew

This was my contribution for the 30th Painting Competition on Benno's Figures Forum. Normally I wasn't in but because Benno needed just one entry to fill a gap, I've sended this in. I didn't have great expectations because these are just some painted figures, unbased and not on a vignette or diorama. And my feeling came out. Out in the first round; and out in the second runner up round. But so far about the competition.

The set itself painted up very well. It's made from soft plastic, so it was easy to remove the little flash that was on them. The plastic didn't make it easy to assemble the gun, as you can see on the ammonution on it. When I do the next one I'll do a little more cutting, so it would fit better. A review of this set can be read, as allways, on Plastic Soldier Review. You can find it here.

One thing I would like to mention is that I have this set from Paul from Paul's Bods. We've been swapping these colonial sets, just to get them all, but without the need buying all the sets. He buys and I buy a few, and it works very good. Thanks Paul!

And now the pictures:

A Green Samurai (before)

This is a figure I’ve painted for a duel on Benno’s Figures Forum. The challenge was to paint one single standing samurai from Zvezda, the same pose, four pictures. It was the first samurai I ever painted. So it was a real challenge for me.
I also had the question I’ve painted him green. It had to do with the period I’ve painted him. It was around Christmas so it looked suitable to me to give him that color. But I knew before the duel started I had no chance to win it. When you have a look at the duel itself, you can see it here, you will see what I mean. My opponents samurai is much better painted, with a lot more attention to the details. That’s the reason why I wrote “before” in this post. The plan is to paint the little details so he would look much better as now.
So consider this post as one out of two. To be continued!
Here are the pictures.

The doctor told me.........

He told me that one can of beer a day isn't a problem. I found this a good advice and I ordered myself the first one! Never ignore some good advice!

I would have prefered some real beer, I'm from Belgium, but this was the only one I could get in this size!

Cheers to you all!

Imex English Officer

I finished another figure that I received from my good friend Pete from Tabakskollegium-Mekelnborg. More information about that you can read in my Imex Lord Cornwallis post.

He's painted almost the same way as Lord Cornwallis, the only thing I wasn't sure of was his helmet. Maybe a specialist of this period can give me some advice.

Have a look at the pictures:

Hat 8197 1808-1815 Prussian Hussars (Test Shots)

A new year, so it's about time I posted something new here. And it's really new. These figures aren't released yet. Pictures of the unpainted figures, line drawings and roughs can be seen here.

I have these figures from a swap with Sascha (Zed1) from Zed's Nappies! Thanks mate!

A little review: The figures are made of a kind of soft plastic. There are four figure poses and two horse poses. One of the figures comes with a removeble arm. You can put an arm on him with trumpet, sword or gun. I have chosen for the arm with trumpet. It went very easy on the figure, and needed just a little bit of glue to stay on his place. Details on the figures are not that sharp, but I blame that on being test figures. The horses are a little bit to small, but that's my personal opinion. Also some details, like the belts, on them could have been a little bit sharper.

Note: the test shots are run on a small testing machine, so it won’t have the full pressure. Therefore, some of the details may come out soft. Information sended by Hat, thank you for that.

The painting: After cleaning them I gave them a white undercoat. Then I started to remove flash (not so much) and mould lines. After that a second coat of white. Next I did the flesh parts with Games Workshop (GW) 23 Elf Flesh and GW Ogryn Flesh Wash. Now we come on the tricky part, the black uniform. I don't use black paint for that but Revell (R) 78 Tank Grey. The cords on the dolman are drybrushed with GW 55 Mithril Silver. Collar, cuffs and trousers are done with R 75 Stone Grey. All over this goes a GW Dabab Black Wash. That's how I get my black uniforms. Other colors used : R85 Brown, GW57 Boltgun Metal, GW62 Burnished Gold, GW56 Chainmail, R77 Dust Grey, R06 Tar Black, GW06 Blood Red and GW Gryphonne Sepia Wash.

Here are the pictures:

Here you can see, two horse poses. Two to the left and two to the right!

And here you see them the other way around!
