Movie Vignette "The Longest Day"

In my previous post I did a little conversion. Now I did a bigger one. And this for the first time in my life. Untill now I did some headswaps, or just cut a figure in the middle. Now I've been cutting some more figures to get a result.

But what is it all about. Last december I inscribed on a competition with as subjects movie and World War II. Rules and deadlines can be read on the blog of GEM. One problem though, the competition is on facebook. So now I've made myself an account there. Never thought I would do that, but never say never.

Next problem was, what would I make? First I was thinking to make something from the movie "The Desert Rats", because I have every thinkeble set of them in scale 1/72. But working it out should take me a lot of time, and because I wasn't sure I would reach the deadline of 29 february 2012, I dropped that idea. Then my wife came with a good idea. It's a scene, when you have seen "The Longest Day", you will recognize. She recommended me the scene with that dead German, waring his boots wrong. Next step was finding a good picture of the scene. Well making a long story short: nothing to find on the www. Only one solution was left. Watching the movie and making a copy of that scene. Not easy, but I managed, as you can see here:

Now I had this picture the search could start for a volonteer playing this dead person. Not easy again, so here starts the conversion. The next picture shows what I used.

The figures on the left and the helmet are from the Revell German Artillery set, the one on the left is from the Airfix WWI German Infantry set. The wall is from Italeri. To be complete I used one other figure of the Airfix set, cause I missed the stretched arm.

Now it's time to start making the vignette. How can I better show it by some pictures?

Basing done. Used woodfiller with some brown paint.
Figure and wall on their place.

Wall painted with Revell Tar Black and drybrushed with Shadow Grey,
Codex Grey and Fortress Grey from Games Workshop.
Finished it with a Devlan Mud wash from GW.

Figure undercoated with white. Flesh colours are GW Elf Flesh
with an Ogryn Flesh wash.

Uniform colour is Valejo German Uniform, Revell Tar Black
and GW Burnished Gold for the buttons.
Finished him with a Gryphonne Sepia Wash from GW.

Vegetation added.

This one my zombie followers will like, I think? I made it in 2010, again for a painting competition on Benno's Figures Forum. It didn't get far, but it was fun making it anyway.

Now what have we got here?

Seems to me this man lost his head!

Mh, looks like a party going on!

The platform is scratchbuild with matches. It took me some time, but I'm happy with the result. The "Executioner" is from Valdemar's VI series. The man without his head is an Esci Barbarian. The one waving with the head is from the Zvezda Medieval Peasant Army. The guards are also from Zvezda. Both from the 100 Years war infantry sets, one English and one French.

Do the chain rock!

Nothing much today. Just some figures I've painted for a duel on Benno's Figures Forum. Again I was up against my good friend Paul from Paul's Bods. It was fun and not only because I won the duel. Also because of the unusual figures these are.

The figures are from a very old Atlantic set (1978), which can be recognized on the orange plastic, where they are made of. These are supposed to be Christians. So they can be seen as part 1 of 2 as can be seen in the review at Plastic Soldier Review. The next figures will show up in the near future when they are painted.

I've painted them with acrylic paints from Games Workshop and Revell.

That's why I choosed that title!

The holes in their back are from fabrication!

Hat 8203 Indian Infantry

After I've painted my Hat 8180 Gardner Gun and Crew, I decided to paint another set of this period. And the Indian Infantry won the toss. So now you know that more sets of this period will follow. A review of the set can be seen here on Plastic Soldier Review.

The figures are made of soft plastic with almost no flash or mold lines. They painted very well up with acrylic paints. For the skin color I used Tanned Flesh and an Ogryn Flesh Wash from Games Workshop. The uniform is painted with Revell Africa Brown with a Gryphonne Sepia Wash from GW. Other colors used are from GW: Blood Red, Snakebite Leather, Vermin Brown, Mithril Silver and Shining Gold. Washes from GW: Devlan Mud and Assurmen Blue. Revell Paints: White, Tar Black, Blue and 85 Brown.

I've painted one pose of each and I really like how they came out.

Valdemar VI002 Welsh Crusader

This is a figure of my favorite sculpter Alex from Russia. You can see more of his work here (Russian language). This serie has 8 figures. Today I show you the first of them.

First Snow!

Yesterday we had snow here for the first time this winter. Not much, just a couple of centimeters, but enough to have some misery on the roads. But.... it remembered me that I've made a little diorama a couple of years ago for the Benno's Figures Forum Meeting in Kampen 2010. A review and pictures of this meeeting can be seen here. A little warning, there are pictures of me in it, so be carefull when you open the link! I don't accept complains after you did!

Now about the diorama, the figures I used are the Italeri Mongols. You can find the review of them here on Plastic Soldier Review. They painted very nice (acrylic paint), and they are supposed to be on patrol. The snow I used on the diorama is from Games Workshop.
